Hi friends! Now that the weather has changed to fall, it is time to bring our dinner parties inside. I really enjoyed putting together this Casual Fall Table Setting for some guests we just hosted from out of town. Finding neutral-toned features for this table was quite easy. Fall colors are so easy to implement into your home decor.

Great quotes always influence my posts and I love sharing them! An Italian-born British poet, Humbert Wolfe wrote “Listen! The wind is rising, and the air is wild with leaves, we have had our summer evenings, now the October eves!” Such appropriate words from someone born in the late 1800’s.
Elements for a Casual Fall Centerpiece
From summer evenings, we roll into fall. Gathering items for the table, I kept several things in mind. In a recent post of my Fall Kitchen Tour, I offered these suggestions for creating a beautiful centerpiece by being sure to include these elements. They were all incorporated in this Casual Fall Table Setting.
Natural or organic elements…that could be flowers, leaves, branches, wood, etc. As shown below, I used fresh rosemary and sage from our garden. Boy, does it smell nice!!
Glass…glass provides such a great contrast to natural elements. Here, I used grey and gold tinted glass to soften the look and provide extra warmth.
Candles…for ambiance and glow.
A variety of textures…fabric, wood, glass, greenery and the use of color really add a lot!
A similar palate of colors.
A bit of sparkle! Every vignette should include some sparkle!!
Creating this Casual Fall Table Setting
The color palate that guided my selections started with this SUPER CUTE
Natural Fiber and Burlap Turkey by World Market! They carry two sizes of this adorable turkey and I used both. So fun for any Thanksgiving table or to use elsewhere in your home!
Believing that using natural elements in your table setting is a must, flowers are often the obvious choice. However, I wanted to use something more rustic, but real, to add organic texture to the table. Using rosemary and sage from my garden totally fit the bill…plus, it was FREE! This is how I put it together…so simple!
Typically, I would use placemats for a setting like this, but I thought to allow the beautiful patina of my great-grandmother’s table to bask in its glory absolutely adds to the warmth and rustic feel of this table setting!
Four generations of my family have gathered around this table for so many occasions. My great-grandfather gave this to my “Grandmother Lichty” for her wedding present in 1900, so it is very special to my family!! I am so thankful to have it and see our children’s generation enjoying it as I did growing up. Such a blessing!
Place Setting Details for this Casual Fall Table Setting
With regard to the place settings and the flatware chosen, I went for “rustic, but simple”. The hammered flatware was perfect! The pine cone napkin rings and the color of the napkins certainly add to the “rustic” feel.
White and grey plates were an obvious choice because of the design features of my breakfast room. Using the white plates offered a great contrast to the antique wood table, not mention a fresh contemporary design. Additionally, mixing up the glassware is a must! It truly helps create a more “custom” and personal feel. Oh, and…the yellow and terracotta ramekins were only $1.24 at World Market!! Yep…that’s right! Such a great finishing touch!
To give you a snippet of what I served for this dinner party, try this recipe for a Thick & Creamy Pumpkin Soup that I served for the first course in the ramekins shown here. For a little bit of kick, add a dash or two of cayenne pepper and some sherry!
Fall into fall with me and create a beautiful table setting for your family or your special guests!
My favorite idea in this post is the addition of fresh herbs. The fragrance will be heavenly on my Thanksgiving table. Thanks for the inspiration!
It really does smell yummy! Send us a picture of your creations Heidi!
