Friday Favorites – Coffee Table Books for Home Design

As a designer for over 25 years, I have collected and used coffee table books consistently in my interior design projects, my staging projects and throughout my own home.  They are so versatile and can give insights into your personal passions and loves.  Today, I am sharing my favorite coffee table books for home design.

A few days ago, a close friend called me over to her house to help her restyle their large coffee table and we got into a discussion about coffee table books and that is what inspired this post.  She told me why she had purchased the ones she had on her coffee table and that she struggled with finding new ones she would like.  So, this one is partly for her (Erin!)…

For me, there are basically four categories of books that I collect and love.  Because of my coffee table book obsession, there are too many to list in one post! I have decided to share my favorites by category in four separate posts as a part of my new Friday Favorites series.  The first two topics will focus on home design books and then fashion design books by some of my most admired designers.  Next, I will feature my favorite books on cooking and entertaining and finally, books for the collector or enthusiast.

My absolute most treasured book is “The Things That Matter” by Nate Berkus…my favorite designer of all time (besides my girl, Julie Guidry of J. Guidry Designs in Dallas!).  Since the massive Tsunami of 2004, I have felt a special bond with him.  He and his boyfriend were victims of the same tsunami that my brother and his family survived.  The whole story is a post in itself, but the desperation we all felt here waiting to hear if our family had survived was hours and days I will never forget.  Nate shares their story in his book and it just brings it all back and reminds us how fortunate we were during those horrible events.  It is, most certainly, one of my “bucket list” items to meet him and share our stories.

Each of these books I am recommending, I own myself and cherish.  The images in them are just stunning and there are so many inspirational stories and subjects.  Not only do they feature such gorgeous and chic ideas, they will also look great on your coffee tables or elsewhere in your home! One last thing to remember about coffee table books is that they are great for gifts!  Especially for those in your life that seem to have “everything”.  Giving them as gifts can be a very thoughtful way to convey that you know someone well and that you celebrate their passions.

If you are interested in updating some of your coffee table books or to give them as gifts, hopefully, this post was helpful.  To see more inspirations on how to decorate with coffee table books, click on this link to my Pinterest page on the same topic.  And stay tuned for more of my Friday Favorites posts!
