This year, we get to celebrate Father’s Day early since my parents are visiting from Dallas for our son’s graduation and his graduation party. Because the weather is so great right now, I decided to have an Alfresco Dinner Party for Father’s Day to honor my amazing dad. They love being outside when they are here since the temperatures in Dallas are getting really warm.

For this dinner party, I decided to bring in a local friend for some help. She owns Distinctive Tabletop Rentals which provides an array of beautiful pieces for creating lovely table settings for parties or events for large or small groups. As you may well know, I have an enormous collection of tableware and stemware but, sometimes, I just want to mix things up. However, I don’t always want to buy a whole new set of a particular piece. I am also running out of storage space! 🙂
Once I communicated my vision with DeeDee, we decided which elements of mine we would use and which ones I could rent from her. The collaboration brought this lovely setting together.
Alfresco Dinner Party for Father’s Day
Because this dinner is celebrating my father, I wanted it to be a bit elegant which is why I opted to use a tablecloth over my outdoor table. I also decided to bring some of my chairs from inside to create a lovely setting on our patio. Also, by using some of my indoor seating, it really softened the look.

Once I previewed DeeDee’s inventory, I decided that I wanted to use her cream square dinner plates and bowls that would combine well with my grey salad plates. I had the perfect set of napkins to tie it all together. These napkins are not available anymore but I sourced a few similar options below.

Since we were eating outdoors, I loved the idea of using her square rattan chargers (especially since I do not own any!) and matching napkin rings. The rattan provided such nice contrast to the ivory linen. It was so nice to be able to just rent these items from her so I didn’t have to go buy a whole new set of plates and chargers!

For the glassware, I used my grey water goblets but added in her gold wine glasses for added color and texture.

DeeDee and I have been friends for many years. We have worked on several boards together and have hosted multiple parties and galas together for non-profits we have supported. Not only because of her sizable collection of partyware, but her hostess skills also made it such a perfect idea for her to go into this business. Can you imagine how much fun we had going through her inventory to put this together?!

For the centerpiece, I stayed away from flowers. This potted herb garden was perfect not only because it is fresh and organic, but I can also continue to use it through the rest of the season. Plus, it smells so delightful, especially when the wind blows!

When it comes to mixing things up for table settings or special events, one way to save money is to, as they say, “beg, borrow or steal” (not literally, of course!!). Look through a sharing neighbor’s staples or consider borrowing items from a family member, etc. If not, there are great companies out there where you can rent pieces to use without breaking the bank. If you are in the Denver area, certainly give Distinctive Tabletop Rentals a try! DeeDee will totally take care of you.

It was easier to do than you would think! Thank you for the pinning, Roxanne. I really appreciate it! XO
Hi Holly!
This table setting is perfect for Father’s day! In this case, the square charger, plates, and bowls add a masculine touch to this setting. I especially like the gold tones you used. I would love for you to share this at Homestyle Gathering via Serving Up Southern.

Thank you, Tana! It was also a very cost effective centerpiece. 🙂 I actually used it last night to season our fish!
Your al fresco tablescape is stunning! I love the potted herbs that add freshness to the tablescape without feeling too feminine. I’ve long admired all your tablescapes, by the way. Thanks for sharing at Tuesday Turn About!
