Hi friends! If you have been watching my stories on Instagram, you know that we are in the middle of several large remodeling projects upstairs in our home. The biggest changes are in our Master Bedroom and Master Closets. We are finally gutting it all! Feeling confident about the design of the room, I still have been looking for inspirations on Pinterest and Houzz for additional ideas. Today, I am sharing several of the Sophisticated Transitional Master Bedroom Ideas that I found in the process.
Our home was built in 1972 and is a two-story with a basement. When we bought our home, we gutted the main floor (with the exception of our sunroom) and our basement prior to moving in. Next, the upstairs bathrooms were totally remodeled (I will be sharing those later…I am already making changes to them…my poor hubby!).
We couldn’t start on the bedrooms upstairs until all of our windows were replaced. So, last summer, we underwent a massive exterior makeover which included replacing all of our windows. You can see those projects HERE.
Replacing the windows started an exterior avalanche which included having to replace all of our stucco and stone and the roof! It was a dreadfully long process, but one that had to be done all at once. I just LOVED having scaffolding up all the way around our house for 4 months! NOT!
Making a long story short, we could finally start on the bedrooms. This phase includes multiple projects:
- Removing and replacing all of the doors and trim.
- Tearing out both of the master bedroom closets down to the sheetrock.
- Tearing out a hall closet to create a new open space.
- New electrical work in the spaces that were removed.
- Re-mudding all of the walls and ceilings for a level 5 smooth finish.
- Two coats of primer for the new walls/texture.
- Two coats of new paint.
- New hardwood flooring for the hallway, master bedroom, and master closet.
- New carpet and paint for the other three bedrooms.
- Installation of a new custom master bedroom closet.
- The FUN PART – new furnishings!
When we moved in, I never redid our bedroom furnishings because we needed to remodel it first. Hence, the fun part! Are you with me?? Here are my favorite inspirations…you will see a theme for sure!!
Sophisticated Transitional Master Bedroom Ideas
In this first space, I love the warm wood tones and how they soften the black and white palette. Our new windows are black and our new hardwoods have a similar natural finish. I also love the dark accent wall! I haven’t settled on whether or not we will feature one, but it is certainly still in consideration.
This next bedroom is the personal bedroom of one of my favorite designers, Josh Young. His ability to combine modern art and accessories with antique and vintage pieces fosters such a handsome, tailored look. I feel so blessed to own some of his artwork.
Shauna has done such a beautiful job of bringing the outdoors in and that is one of my goals for our new space. She lives here in Colorado with beautiful trees surrounding her property. Utilizing the natural tones of the forest around her really creates a cozy, yet contemporary feel.
This neutral palette is not only lovely, but it feels so comfortable. Her use of textures and natural fabrics provides such a calming environment. And, I am over the moon for the antique chest!
Robert Brown is another fellow designer that I love following. He has an innate ability to combine sculptural and architectural elements in a way that is so sophisticated. His sophisticated utilization of layering provides such elegance to this space.
The eclectic nature of this style is so inviting. Combining unique textures and colors flatters the neutral elements in the rest of the space. This is all so daring and I love it!
It has always been my belief that a master bedroom should be a restful place. There is nothing that helps create that environment than maintaining a decluttered space. This polished and clean look is so conducive to calm and serenity.
The eclectic textures and patterns on this bed offer such a custom, inviting look.
The warm and cozy tones on this bed are just screaming for me to jump into it and not leave! Creating a relaxing space is my number one goal.
Can you see where I am going here?? Neutral tones, texture, contrast, and softness will dictate the final design of our new master bedroom. It will be a while before it is ready to start decorating, but these Sophisticated Transitional Master Bedroom Ideas will continue to be an inspiration. By the time it is finished, I will certainly be ready to plop into our new bed and kick my feet up with a glass of wine and celebrate the conclusion of all of the messy projects! Holliday, I love the bedrooms you’ve found! I think about adding in something different in the way of a transitional bedframe to offset our French furniture and this gives me some good ideas. Sorry you had to redo all the stucco and then the roof, too… I can imagine THAT wasn’t part of last year’s original budget. ~ One of my worries with having to put in new windows is what we will find underneath each one. I know of one wall that will have to be opened when we redo our mbr in the nearish future.

Thanks, Barbara! Great to hear from you! The stucco, windows, and roof were in the plan but it still was a huge hickey! When we bought our house, the outside stucco color was peach and the windows were white with divided light. We knew we had to do it all at once, so we had to wait a little while to get it all going because of all of the ongoing indoor projects and big yard projects. It was worth the wait though!
