In these uneasy, confusing times, my question is…have a single one of you been able to buy hand sanitizer ANYWHERE??!! It has been so frustrating! So, today, I am sharing my own kick on a DIY Homemade Hand Sanitizer with lavender essential oils so you can make your own at home.

Washing your hands often has been the most recommended way to combat illness, but sometimes running water and soap are not available when you need it. Having hand sanitizer handy is key! Especially, in your car, as we are all running around stocking up on things or grabbing food from a drive-through or for take-out.
The Recipe for this DIY Homemade Hand Sanitizer
The recipe is super easy! I must say that I was lucky enough to have the three ingredients on hand and most of you may. However, I must admit that I have been looking for more of the ingredients and have been unsuccessful. Hopefully, you already have the ingredients in your cupboards. If not, I have linked the ingredients below so that you can shop them from your home (as of today, they are all “in stock”).

The basic recipe for Homemade Hand Sanitizer is simply a mixture of aloe vera and rubbing alcohol. For my own spin, I decided to add Lavender Essential Oil for a variety of reasons. First, I am obsessed with this essential oil! I keep a jar of it by my bed, next to my seat in our theater, and in my kitchen.

Lavender oil has so many health benefits that make it a perfect additive to any hand sanitizer recipe. Here is a list of some of the basic properties that this essential oil provides:
- Promotes calm and relaxation.
- Provides relief of inflammation.
- Soothes dry skin.
- Helps promote skin healing.
- Combats anxiety (boy, don’t we need a bit of that these days?!).
- Promotes restful sleep.
- Treats a variety of skin conditions.

As I said earlier, this recipe could not be easier (full recipe below)! Easy is so good right now…right?! First, add the aloe vera to the measuring cup.

Next, add the alcohol and the lavender oil, and whisk briskly! Easy-peasy!!

Finally, I store the mixture in an airtight container. I use it to refill my existing hand sanitizer bottles. As you know, hand sanitizer tends to be somewhat “gloppy”, so that is why I prefer to use the bottles we already have on hand.

I truly hope that this post of my DIY Homemade Hand Sanitizer was helpful for you and your family. One of the other reasons I am popping on today is to check in on each of you. How are you maintaining under these new circumstances? What are you doing with your time? Now is such a great time to share each other’s victories and concerns.
Today, we were given our “stay at home” orders until April 17, so that is a bummer. I am not concerned about how we as parents will handle it as much as how my teenage kids will.
Our daughter got in a long hike today with our dog, Callie, so it is nice that she had that time outside today. Our son is becoming a bit concerned about what he will do with his time. Any ideas out there?! Last week, I shared a new post of Things to do if you have to Stay at Home that has a lot of nice ideas. Now, it is time for me to find some for my kiddos!! Please let me know how you are doing out there!?

Great idea and so easy!
Thanks! Adding the lavender oil really sets it apart because it smells so good…
