Need more storage?! Boy, do I have a fun idea for you today. This dining room sideboard hack might surprise you!

So, the whole process to find a replacement for our dining room buffet/sideboard started with our upstairs remodel. We removed two closets in our bedroom to make room for a new TV area. Right away, I knew our existing dining room sideboard would be perfect for this area.

Here is where the sideboard sits now. This is not fully finished yet as I have fun plans for the back wall which I will be sharing later in the big reveal of our bedroom remodel.

You can see how I eliminated and remodeled another closet in this same project HERE.

So, the search for a replacement piece began! My first goal was to attain more storage. Needless to say, I have an enormous collection of napkins and napkin rings.
Fun side note…this is one reason why I became close friends with my fellow blogger, Lory, at To Have + To Host. Her Instagram profile stated that she was an “owner of too many napkins” so I bonded with her immediately when we finally met on the phone and then in person.

For the last several years, my napkins and napkin rings have been spread out all through my house in different storage pieces. It has been a dream of mine to have it all together for once! Finding one piece the size I needed ended up being an almost impossible task both for cost reasons and that the size of the options out there were not sufficient.

So, I decided to shop for a piece that would allow me to have TWO of the same piece side by side…to look like one super large piece of furniture. My original dining room sideboard was 86″ wide but once I combined our two new smaller pieces, I now have 114″ of storage on a wall that is 14 feet wide.
Getting all of these drawers (12 of them to be exact!) filled was a multi-day process of purging and organizing. Based on the fact that we were still on “stay at home” orders, it was nice to have such a big project to conquer.

This WESTERLEIGH 6 DRAWER DOUBLE DRESSER is the one I selected (it comes in other finishes). Because they arrived during our quarantine, I had to put them together myself. That was a long day!!

The biggest BONUS of this solution is that I saved a LOT of money! Most of the options out there that were the width I needed were super expensive. Combining two smaller units saved me several thousand dollars. WOW!! The hubby was happy about that!

You want to make sure that the sides are straight so that there will be no gaps with you place them together. As I have shown a few friends and neighbors, they have had NO IDEA it was actually two pieces of furniture! You can shop the whole room here below…
I actually created a similar hack with the mirrors. I could not find a mirror large enough for this wall, so I ended up buying four and had them hung side by side to create one dramatic, large mirror effect. My installer was not happy with that day for sure!! 😉

Hopefully, this little dining room sideboard hack will give you some new ideas to gain extra storage for less money. It is always my goal to help you think outside of the box!!

Thanks, my friend! Hopefully, we will see you soon!
Wow – what a great idea Holly! I never would have thought it was two pieces – and the mirrors too! You are so clever, and then of course they’re styled so beautifully! I’m totally inspired to rethink some of my pieces 😉 Thanks!
Awesome! Then, my goal was accomplished!!
