For my Christmas decorating this year, I decided I want to use more fresh evergreens than in years before. I have so many options here for using evergreens here in Denver and I love incorporating them into my home decor throughout the year. Today, I am sharing a lot of easy ways of how to decorate for Christmas with fresh evergreens.

This post is sponsored by O’Toole’s Garden Center but all of the designs, opinions, and comments are my own. Anyone who leaves a comment in the comments section below will be entered to win a $150 gift card to O’Toole’s Garden Center to purchase your own fresh Christmas evergreens! This includes garlands, wreaths, sprays, poinsettias, and/or Christmas decor!! The offer expires by December 7, 2020.

Since my Christmas trees are up for so long, I only use faux Christmas Trees throughout our home. Based on this, I miss the smell of a fresh tree which is one of the many reasons why I enjoy using fresh evergreens for our Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating.
How to decorate for Christmas with Evergreens…
Use them on your coffee tables…
Since I do not have a mantel in our main living room, I tend to decorate our coffee tables as if they were my mantel. I do go a little crazy here! This mixed garland from O’Toole’s Garden Center was perfect to feature because they incorporated so many species of evergreens…spruces and cedars varieties, to be specific.

All I did was swirl the garland down the table from one corner to the other and then placed in the candles and ornaments randomly but to follow the direction of how I placed the garland on the table.

Use them on your stair railings…
One of the reasons that I have moved to using fresh evergreens this year is that it provides a fresh texture that cannot be matched with faux garlands or other Christmas decor. It is so authentic and organic, as well. And, the smell that it adds is so festive!

Since our railing is simple and contemporary, I simply draped the cedar garland and added some ribbon that coordinated with the finishes in our newly remodeled upstairs hallway. The fresh evergreen does all the work here! The way it drapes naturally is so divine!

Use them on a mirror…
No mantel? No stair railings? Add it to a mirror!! For my leaner mirror, I used cedar garland. One of the great things about purchasing fresh evergreens from O’Toole’s Garden Center is that they cut it by the yard for you. Most other suppliers only sell garland in a preset length.
For this installation, I used three yards. They charge $4.99 per yard for most of their garlands so it is incredibly economical! $15 and BAM! PLUS, once Christmas is over, I do not have to store the garland.

Use them on your buffets…
For this Christmas Cone Tree Centerpiece on our buffets, I used the mixed garland (the same I use on my coffee tables) for added texture. I also added individual cedar sprays (they sell them separately) and fresh magnolia leaves. You can see the whole post HERE.

Having the garland drape down the side of the furniture really adds a bit more drama…don’t you think?!

Use them on other table tops…
For this antique family piece in my entry way, I simple placed cypress and cedar pieces around the lamp and then added this festive Santa and ornaments to complete the look. No garland here…

Use them on your mantels…
This one of our three fireplaces which sits in our sunroom (which is soon to become our new utility room!). Just adding a touch of fresh evergreens to the space totally brings in the Christmas spirit. A super simple touch…

Use them on your front porch…
To be totally honest, I have never liked our front door. We will be replacing it this year with a more contemporary door that coordinates better with the full exterior remodel we underwent a few years ago. However, using the fresh mixed garland is so gorgeous that it elevates the entrance so much that you don’t notice the door as much. Don’t you agree??
They also carry a large selection of fresh evergreen wreaths for Christmas in multiple sizes and species. You will not be disappointed with the options!!

I also used a plethora of fresh evergreens to put together our front pots. Are you starting to see the many ways you can use fresh evergreens in your holiday decor?!

Here are a few ways I also used fresh evergreens from my yard for our Thanksgiving tables…

To sum things up, fresh evergreens are so festive and organic to use for your holiday decorating. O’Toole’s Garden Center has you covered in this area as well as other Christmas decorations, potted plants, poinsettias, wreaths, etc.

If you leave a comment in the comments section below, you will be entered to win a $150 gift certificate to make your own purchases for the season. I will announce the winner on Monday, December 7, 2020! In the meantime, go stock up before their stock runs out!
In addition to shopping in-store, they also have a Gardening To-Go platform where you can safely order your greenery online and pick it up curbside at their 3 locations by visiting ShopOtooles.com. This is obviously a huge perk given the pandemic!
ONE OTHER PRO TIP: To keep your garland fresh, there are two things I do. They love water, so I spray them with water regularly. I also spray them with WILT STOP to help keep them fresh.
I hope you enjoyed this post with ideas on how to decorate for Christmas with evergreens! It is officially time to get in the holiday spirit!
HO HO HO!!

Pin it for Later…

I love the front door and pots next to it. Very organic looking! Beautiful!
Thanks so much, my friend! They would look divine on your gorgeous front porch! XO
Your home is so beautiful, Holly! I love how simply elegant you celebrate each holiday and change of seasons. Question…Do you worry about any water damage to your furniture pieces when you are misting the garland to stay fresh?
Not really, because most of them are on hard surfaces like glass, mirror, or marble. I am very careful when I am spraying them on my wood surfaces by spraying pretty far away. The key is to get them sprayed well before I place them. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You are officially entered to win the gift certificate! XO
SO many beautiful ideas! Inspiring!!
Thank you so much for stopping by and saying so! Have a great weekend, Wendy! XO

Thank you for the ideas. I’m using fresh greenery this year. My dad passed away with Covid on Nov 20 & my mom is still in rehab, very weak, with Covid. I’m just not up to using my faux garlands & then putting them away. Thankfully the fresh green can just be disposed of! 🎄
Oh my, Oma! I am so sorry to hear about your recent loss. You will be in my prayers. Being able to dispose of the expired greenery is truly a bonus.
The beautiful smell from all those -must just be amazing!!! I might have to swing over to Otooles to see what I can bring home too 🙂
Oh, yes…you should! It is so festive and smells divine!
Your Christmas decor is gorgeous! I’m inspired to go get some evergreen!

These ideas are so great! I’m in a smaller space this year, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to do a tree, but these seem like a great alternative. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, Felicia! It is a great way to decorate small spaces and still feel like you brought in a tree…albeit only a part of a tree. Thanks for your kind words!
I love the smell of greenery at Christmas time. It brings back so many memories. Thank you for reminding me of all the ways I could use them in my decor this year!
Madeline, I don’t know how I missed your sweet comment. Hopefully, you found some fun ways to incorporate fresh greenery!

You bet, Madeline! It does smell so good in here for a while! Merry Christmas!
Love absolutely everything in your home! I ventured out last year and decorated my mantle and my dining room table with fresh greenery, only to have it dry out way before Christmas… so seeing your Wiltpruf info has inspired me to try again this year! thanks so much for wonderful ideas!
Oh, I am sorry to hear that! So, this is what I do…I lay it all out and spray it with water first. Then, I spray it with the Wilt Stop. And, I spray it again a few days later. I can definitely tell the difference on the pieces that I didn’t treat this way. Give it a whirl again!!
I always use fresh evergreens inside and outside. Love the front door and I also love the mirror and buffet. I use a mirror over my buffet and I was needing an update for this year and you just gave it to me. Thanks so much. Everything is just gorgeous.
Awww. I am so glad this gave you some new ideas, Pamela! Thank you so much for your kind words! Happy decorating!!
