Oh, what a year it has been! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah. Today, I am sharing a new festive modern glam table setting in black and gold and silver I created to celebrate for this new year (and, hopefully, better!) ahead.
We will be away for New Year’s Eve, but when we return we are planning on hosting a wine tasting dinner to help put this weird year behind us.
Celebrating a new year is typically a festive time. A lot of folks still have their Christmas decorations on display. Usually, I take our decorations pretty quickly (because they have been up for so long!). Incorporating some of our Christmas decorations on this new tablescape certainly kept the feel of the holidays alive!

The Centerpiece for our Modern Glam Table Setting
This year, the Christmas decorations on our living room coffee tables inspired this table. I simply moved some of the elements of these decorations over to our dining room table to start off the centerpiece.

Here is where I started…moving the biggest vase of ornaments to the center of the table and then added on from there.

For a fresh look, I just added in a base of magnolia leaves. I bought them as bushes (from Hobby Lobby) but then cut off the individual stems so I could stuff them in smaller pieces.

You could use any combination of ornaments!

When I found these black votive holders, I knew I wanted to use them for a New Year’s themed tablescape.

The Place Settings for our Modern Glam Table Setting in Black and Gold and Silver
For the foundation of the table setting, I started with my favorite black jute table runners. I laid them across the table to offset the linear centerpiece.

And, since the runners are falling off the table, I placed the napkins in a similar way because the black runners provided a great backdrop for the napkins!

NOTE: OMG! Y’all! As I am editing this post, I am just realizing that I moved the glassware on this front right place setting to take pictures of the centerpiece and I forgot to put them back before I proceeded with the rest of my pictures! Here is living proof that I do ALL of my own photography, editing, writing, and shopping my blog posts AND, I am STILL LEARNING so much!!
Black and gold are very traditional colors to feature for any New Year’s Eve party. I also love using this color palette because of the black and gold decor that have incorporated into this space.

BUT, any festive celebration for a New Year should most certainly feature a little glam! Since this particular event will be a wine tasting dinner, we will be serving multiple courses that require multiple layers of plates.

To “glam up” the place settings, a little bit of a glittery finish created a perfect layer (for the salad course).

This was also the perfect opportunity to let the glory of my gorgeous Waterford Lismore Salad Plates (which they, unfortunately, do not make anymore…I have sourced some used and similar options below).

I just love how the glittery plates below them help them stand out even more. And, what could be more “glam” than hand-cut crystal Waterford accent plates for an appetizer course?! I am just sayin’…

So…as I mentioned, this will be a wine tasting dinner so you gotta pull out all of the stops with regard to the glassware. Using fine crystal really contributes to the taste and experience of a wine tasting.

Riedel is our fine crystal glassware of choice, especially for our wine tasting dinner parties. You can see how I use the same collection for our wine tasting dinner this past year HERE. This is a helpful chart for the correct glassware shape for particular breeds of wine.

I must admit that I LOVE to see a “boatload” of crystal on our tables! It really creates a dramatic look!

As I reflect on this past year, all I can do is hope for a better on this coming year. There is not much to celebrate from this past year but I am really trying to have a positive and hopeful for this new year ahead. I hope you can figure out a way to celebrate the hope of the same in your own lives.
Creating this modern glam table setting in black and gold and silver is my way of wishing better times for this new year with a few friends and wine lovers. Prayer, hope, faith, and the support and love of my family, friends, neighbors, and you, my loyal readers is what provides me a foundation of hope that things will be better in 2021!
Cheers to a New (Better) Year!
