I am so excited to finally share our classic contemporary Master Bedroom Reveal! I am also giving you my review of our new Amerisleep mattress and pillows.
This post is sponsored by Amerisleep but all of my opinions and commentary are my own. Be sure to stay tuned to the bottom of this post for a special offer they have for my readers!
This has been a long time in the works and it is not completely finished. I am still planning on wallpapering the TV wall (there will be another post on that later) among a few other minor changes.

When we bought our 1972 two-story home (with a basement), we gutted and remodeled the main floor and the basement first prior to moving in. Next, the upstairs bathrooms were redone completely (I will show you those soon). Then, we took a hiatus on the indoors to complete a massive exterior make-over while other outdoor projects were going on.
With that being said, the upstairs bedrooms, closets, hallway, and stairwell were the last areas that needed A LOT of attention. So, before the pandemic arrived, we started the process of the rest of the remodel of the upstairs. And, then, things came to a screeching halt.
My hubby (Dan) is super handy and decided to take on a lot of the work since we had to “stay at home” from the onset of the pandemic. We removed a closet in the hallway and two closets in our bedroom first. You can see what I did with the hall closet we removed HERE. It really opened up things up in our hallway full of doors. This area sits right outside the master bedroom.

Once the closets were removed, we had all of the walls resurfaced to a level 5 finish (super flat and smooth) for a more contemporary look. We were able to get a crew in to work on this, but couldn’t get anyone to come in and install the new hardwood flooring throughout the main hallway and master bedroom and closet. So, I had my carpet crew come in and remove all of the carpet and, then, my husband and a good friend installed all of the flooring themselves. It took a while, but it really turned out great!
After that, Dan proceeded with installing all of the new baseboards and trim. Thank goodness we had so much extra time on our hands while the “stay at home” orders were in place. We were determined to get moved back into our bedroom though since we had to fully move into our son’s room during this whole process (including our entire closet which was being completely remodeled as well!).
Our bedroom is my oasis…my place where I try to settle and relax from the day. Being moved out of it from most of the pandemic was very unsettling, I must say. As I was planning our bedroom, I wrote a post with lots of Sophisticated Transitional Master Bedroom Ideas that inspired me as I pulled everything together.

Once we were able to move back in, I still had to wait for a while for some of the furniture pieces to arrive. They were also delayed by the whole Covid mess.
One of the biggest parts of putting together our new room was finding a new mattress. During our 20+ years of marriage, we have been through (bought and replaced) probably 8 or so mattresses to find the right one. Prior to finding our new Amerisleep mattress, I was not getting good, consistent sleep at night because my arms were always falling asleep. I am a side sleeper, so it was super frustrating to be tossing and turning every night.
Amerisleep reached out to me to come in and try their mattresses and it was a home run! We have had multiple coil beds, memory foam beds, etc. but their beds combine the two types of beds to create a hybrid bed that is amazing! The technology and engineering behind their products are very impressive!

We videoed my whole showroom experience so that you can see all of the options and hear more about the technology of how the beds are made and delivered. It is quite unique to be able to order them online and have them shipped directly to you without having to worry about scheduling deliveries, etc. You can see the whole experience HERE…
You can also see the simple process of unboxing the bed BELOW and how quickly it is ready to use. It is also interesting to mention here that because of the technology used to make their beds, there is no odor that comes from the bed after it is opened and is fully expanded. There was no “gassing-off” like you can experience with other mattresses. No odor AT ALL!
We chose the Amerisleep AS5h mattress and it ships right to our door…no need to set up deliveries!
We also changed out our sleeping pillows to get the full bed experience from Amerisleep. I went with their Comfort Classic Pillow which is made with the same technology as the bed. My husband (a back and side sleeper) chose the Dual Comfort Pillow and it has been working really for him!

Our Classic Contemporary MASTER BEDROOM REVEAL…
Based on the lighter tones of the floors and wall, I really wanted to warm things with the bed, bedding, and furnishings. I also wanted to tie in some black to coordinate with the windows and the TV.
Since we removed the original 1972 closet with two doors, it really opened up the space and provided another option for more lighting. Prior to removing the closets, the TV had to sit in front of the window and that was no bueno! I moved this black console up (no longer available) from our dining room for the TV to sit on and, more importantly, to store some of my large collection of off-season shoes and handbags (if you know, you know!).

You can see what I replaced this piece within my dining room in this post of my Dining Room Sideboard Hack!

For the side tables, I chose large side chests for more storage and to balance the scale of our large leather headboard. I had the headboard custom made to get the color and scale that I was wanting but I have sourced some similar options below. NOTE: The color of the headboard is not quite accurate in these photos. It is a warm cognac/saddle color. In these pictures, it is coming off a little more “orange” than it really is. It happened in the editing phase…so sorry!

We have had these lamps for many years and they are my favorite! The alabaster is backlit so there are multiple options for how to use these lamps. I basically designed the whole room around them. I wish they were still available! 🙁

Finding a rug for this space was a great challenge. I knew I wanted some pattern but a simple color palette with some black in it. This SAFAVIEH Tulum Giorgina Moroccan Boho Rug totally did the trick. You WILL NOT believe how inexpensive it was! I liked it so much that I actually bought two of them in case something happens to it in the future. Who does that?!

For the bedding, I chose this new “Cloud” offering from Pottery Barn and then had all of the pillows custom-made. As a designer, that is how I roll sometimes so that I can achieve exactly what is in my crazy head. The comforter is a perfect weight for all seasons and is their most popular comforter right now.

Thankfully, because of the size of our bedroom (which we found out through this process was originally two bedrooms turned into one), we had room for a nice size lounge chair. I actually sit here a lot to blog and watch TV at the same time…always with my feet up!

All that is left to do for this room is to wallpaper the TV wall for added texture. I have already picked it out so I just have to find the time to work on it.
