It is still really warm here in Colorado right now, but the temps are starting to fall a tad bit. I have been focusing on our outdoor spaces and getting them ready for the new season. Today, I am sharing some cozy ideas for decorating your outdoor spaces for fall.
This post is sponsored by O’Toole’s Garden Centers and Denby Pottery USA. All of commentary and opinions are my own. You can read my DISCLOSURES HERE.
In case you missed it, you can see our new cozy firepit area we just created for fall. That is where I started.

Now, let’s break this down…with examples…stay tuned to the end for the alfresco dining ideas for fall! There might also be a gorgeous “photo bomber” shown below. 😉
~Front Porch~
For our front porch, I only made a few minor modifications and additions. When I put together our summer planter pots for the front porch, I made some of my selections from O’Toole’s Garden Center with consideration for how I might transition the pots for fall.
Here are a few “BEFORE” pics…
Featuring warm tones in your planter pots is part of what helps keep pots feeling cozy even into the fall. Coleus is always a great species that grow and look amazing in fall pots. And, as you can see, my potato plants are really gone crazy and will continue to do well into the fall.

To transition these pots, I replaced a few of the plantings with warm tones and textures. Garden mums are a great way to do this. I absolutely adore the plum tones (Coleus – Molten Lava) I added to the back of the tall pots.

I didn’t have to make a single change to the front pots. I have just let them go wild! Loving how the “spillers” (if you know, you know!) have grown so beautifully.

Adding pre-potted garden mums to the area really warmed up the space for added coziness.

To finish off the look, I simply popped in a few neutral faux pumpkins into the pots and around the pots. Because of the critters we have outside here in Colorado, we can not feature real pumpkins. They are a tasty treat for the squirrels and bunnies and they really make a mess!

Adding a fall-themed throw rug can also help cozy-up your outdoor spaces. Layering them is super fun!

~Back Patio~
Earlier this summer, I shared a post with 10 Ways to Give your Patio a Makeover. You can see what I started with to decorate this area for fall in the post.
For the most part, I carried the same ideas onto our back patio but just featured them in different ways.

More mums…more pumpkins…more cozy…

Another way to cozy up your outdoor spaces is to use garden solar lighting, tabletop fire sources, and/or candles. You can see how I used them throughout my patio for the summer here in this video…
I had a little “photo bomber” show up when I was shooting this area. Couldn’t’ resist sharing her and all of her glory!

New Firepit Area
There is tons of cozy out here even though it is a very “open” space in our yard! Again, the same ideas were incorporated out here. Fall color and texture is key!

O’Toole’s Garden Centers was my only go-to for all of these plantings. They stock so many plants that are not easily available from other vendors. You can also shop with them online and utilize their curbside pick-up services! Their pre-potted fall mix planters are stunning and are still available at all of their three local locations.

There are two other ideas that I can share with you from this area. Blankets and throws are a perfect touch to create coziness…especially in our cooler fall nights.

My friend, Yvonne, of Stone Gable Blog (one of the first blogs I ever followed!) utilized some many of these ideas…a throw, mums, pumpkins, candlelight, etc. She nailed this lovely front porch!

String lights do a great job for adding warmth to open areas such as this one!

I love how Courtney of French Country Cottage used sting lighting in her outdoor area (and lots of pumpkins!)!

You can see the amazing ambiance it adds to this outdoor space in this video…

More Cozy Ideas for Decorating your Outdoor Spaces for Fall!
Dress up your outdoor dining table for fall entertaining! If you know me well, you know I love alfresco dining and entertaining our friends and family outdoors. This fall is no exception!
I have been DYING to use my new Blue Haze Dinnerware from Denby Pottery and I thought this would be the perfect occasion! Blue is such a complimentary color to warm orange tones! So compatible for fall!!

My outdoor dining table is the next change I want to make on our back patio. I decided to use these new orange linen table runners to help cover it up and provide the perfect foundation for the dinnerware. As you may know, using table runners instead of placemats is a normal thing for me. Again…if you know…you know…;-)

These are just a few sneak peeks of this new alfresco tablescape. As I am writing this, I have decided to create a full blog post on this table for more details. There is a GREAT STORY about why I have so many Azul Tequila bottles (about 12 or so!). Stay tuned for that!

Thanks for hanging in there for this long post! I hope you have been inspired by these Cozy Ideas for Decorating your Outdoor Spaces for Fall. This is such a yummy time of the year as we transition into the new holiday season. Have you started your fall decorating??

Thank you for these ideas! I especially love the pumpkins and mums! I’m having a landscape architect redo my yard this weekend and then after that, I finally get to decorate my yard and home exterior for fall. I’m so excited to use some of these ideas, I’ll have to buy a new wreath too!
Oh…how fun! That is so exciting! Happy fall decorating!!
Your grounds are beautifully arranged. Every arrangement is set for comfort as well as beauty. I can see some of the Texas infulence. Thanks for showing the full spectrum of your gardens and setting area.
I am so glad you like it! We really do enjoy these spaces throughout the seasons. Have a great weekend!
