It is hard to believe we are so close to Christmas! This is such a magical time of the year. Today, I am sharing two of our Simple Modern Black and Gold Christmas Tablescapes along with other ideas and inspirations to create similar looks (at the bottom of this post).

Every year, we host our annual Christmas Eve dinner for our family and close family friends. We typically host around 20 people for a seated dinner and gift exchange. It has really become a wonderful tradition for us. Based on the number of guests, I set all three of our dining tables.
Since I typically set our main dining room table to coordinate with the Christmas tree in there, I set the other two tables similarly so that they are coordinated as well. You can see our Classic Red and Gold Christmas Tree HERE that is in our dining room this year.
I have refurnished both of the spaces where our other dining tables sit. I decided that I wanted these tables to be simple and modern to coordinate with the aesthetic in these areas. A home can get cluttered really quickly with Christmas decorations which is why I wanted to keep things simple.
Our Simple Modern Black and Gold Christmas Tablescapes
As you might figure, we entertain a lot through the holidays. Based on this, I wanted these two tables to be set for “every day”. In terms of the dinnerware, I only used some of our “everyday” dinnerware. None of it has a Christmas “theme” in terms of their style. The centerpieces are how I brought a “Christmassy” look to the place settings and the tables.

This is a great way to see that you don’t necessarily have to have Christmas-themed dinnerware to create a festive, holiday look.
For the centerpieces, I started with Faux Needle Pine with Snowberries Plant Garland by Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia. This garland comes in 2 sizes, but the 6-foot garland is what I used here. It is the perfect size for a small table. It is hard to find garlands that are only 6 feet long so this one is a keeper!

To create this look, I simply placed the garland down the middle of the table with a little bit of curvature. For this round table, I liked the idea of running it across the table at an angle. I think it adds a bit of flair to the table.

The next step was to nestle in the candlesticks (linked below). I alternated them on either side of the garland. Using candles and candlesticks really adds a little formality to the tables, which is so nice for the holiday season.

The finishing touch was setting in the black and gold ornaments. I felt like the matte finish of the black ornaments was a nice contemporary offset to the gold shiny ornaments.

Both of these tables are small, so it was necessary to keep the place settings small as well. Hence…no placemats. I really wanted the focal point to be the centerpieces.

The black modern stoneware dinner plates are new to my collection so I was excited to use them. They are perfect for smaller tables because they do not have a large rim which yields a smaller “footprint” on the table.

For the salad plates, I chose our Lenox Kate Spade Tribeca plates to coordinate with my new grey leather dining chairs. I hope that doesn’t seem a bit much! 😉 The green leaf napkins were perfect to add a little touch of green to coordinate with the green tones in the garland. Again, not Christmas-themed. 🙂

Using simple and clean, modern stemware really added a lot of drama! We reward ourselves with fine wines for occasions such as Christmas so I bring out our Riedel crystal stemware. I have linked them all below.

Here are the images of our second Simple Modern Black and Gold Christmas Tablescapes. The only element that I changed was the featuring black candlesticks rather than gold.
