Halloween is only in a few days. Hard to believe. My kiddos are teenagers and will not be home on Halloween night, so I decided to put together an Elegant Halloween Table Setting with pumpkins for this weekend so we can at least celebrate together prior to their Halloween parties ramping up.
Time to fess up here though. I am not fond of Halloween. Don’t get me wrong…I love the festivities, the trick or treating, the costumes, etc. I just don’t like all the scary stuff. Accordingly, I usually only decorate for Halloween with harvest-themed fall decor rather than with skeletons, witches and such.

This spider napkin ring available from Amazon is about as scary as I will go…he he!
Elements for an Elegant Halloween Table Setting with Pumpkins
Each year, I get comments from my daughter that I do not properly decorate for Halloween. She has friends parent’s that go all out with their Halloween decor and it is fantastic! As she has gotten older, I have made an effort to do at least a table setting that suits both of our Halloween decor wishes. That is what inspired this post!
If you want to create an elegant look, while still making your kids or guests happy, here are a few ways to accomplish that…
Utilize traditional Halloween colors
To my daughter, “real” Halloween decorations are orange and black and shades thereof. So, to honor her opinions, I used this color palette, BUT I added in a few more “fancy” elements of silver and gold to create a more elegant look. The pumpkin soup bowls (from Pottery Barn) were a perfect element to feature, not to mention a great vessel for my homemade Butternut Squash Soup!
The black chargers, which are from Hobby Lobby, and wine glasses (from Z Gallerie & not available anymore) tie in the traditional black colors.
Add in a few touches of glitz or glamour
The “glitz” for this table setting started with the polka dot napkins I am using as placemats. I found these about a year ago at HomeGoods and had planned to use them for a New Year’s Eve table setting. Instead, I used them for this application and they were a perfect start!
The polka dots are actually a shimmery silver and gold so they were perfect! Plus, I love using napkins for placemats! There are so many more options out there! I still may use them for New Year’s Eve…we will see.
For added glamour, I am reusing these fantastic silver glitter salad plates I found at HomeGoods. The adorable cotton spheres (actually Christmas ornaments from Hobby Lobby) gives the table a touch of “harvest”.
For added “glam”, I used these natural elements that were airbrushed black and silver. They feel a bit funky and perfect for Halloween.
Fresh flowers are a must for an elegant look!
Using a real heirloom pumpkin as a vessel is a great way to add lovely elegance. Alternatively, you can also include a “funky” element as well (did this for the daughter!). Spray painting or air-brushing a unique flower or natural element is an unexpected way to add drama. The Bittersweet Vine was airbrushed silver and the Millet was painted black.
Interesting fact: Millet is grown to make birdseed.
Because the elements on my table are so many shades of orange, I wanted the centerpiece to include multiple shades of orange as well. We included orange Marigolds, Chrysanthemums, Safflowers, and other Tropics.
Notice here that it is actually not a “center”piece, but it is off-set from the center because I wanted the whole centerpiece to have an appearance of spilling out onto the table. Anna is having a close friend join us, so my table had to be set for five. Hence, my idea to have the centerpiece spill into the end of the table.
This silver branch candle holder is one my most favorite accessories. I bought it years ago from ZGallerie and use it often. I simply tucked in some of my painted florals around it to finish the look. Here are a few similar pieces…
Candles…Candles…Candles are also a must for an elegant table setting
Hopefully, you are getting so inspirations to create your own Elegant Halloween Table Setting. My daughter is happy and that makes me happier!
I understand that some you might not be up for creating your floral arrangement with a pumpkin. Or, that you might want your centerpiece to last longer. With being said, I have shopped some faux options for you that could work for a similar table setting.
Speaking of my daughter, I have a funny story. When my siblings and I were little, my parent’s faith was very important to them (it still is for all of us). With that in mind, the only way they would allow us to go trick or treating was to be dressed as a Biblical character. Soooo, one year I went as an Angel and the next year, I went as “Ruth”. Yep. So, maybe now you understand why I might have an aversion to some of the scary stuff.
